Event videography at Kuala Kedah's waterfront

Near the jetty, plan for wind and noise so the speeches stay clear.

In short

  • Kuala Kedah is the Langkawi ferry jetty town, about 10 km from Alor Setar.
  • Ferry crowds, boat engines and wind decide where speeches can be recorded.
  • The fort museum and the jetty each have their own managers: ask them about filming.
  • Ask the ferry operator whether tide or dredging affects your sailing.

Kuala Kedah is where the Langkawi ferries leave from. An event here is shaped by the jetty, the boat noise and the people crossing to the island. Tell us the exact spot and how guests arrive, and we plan the sound and the schedule around that.

What is different about Kuala Kedah?

Kuala Kedah sits on the Kedah River about 10 km from Alor Setar city centre, and it is the mainland gateway to Langkawi. Utusan Malaysia reported that the area is busy with ferry passengers on holidays and quiet outside them. For a gathering here, that means crowds and full car parks on school and public holidays. Pick your date with that in mind, and ask the venue about parking for your guests and for our vehicle.

The jetty and the ferry

The jetty is a working transport point. Ferries to Langkawi take roughly an hour and a half to two hours, according to the Utusan report, and the operator’s timetable changes, so check it close to your date.

Ask the operator one more thing. The Transport Ministry said in 2022 that the jetty has a sedimentation problem that needs regular dredging. Ask whether tide or dredging has changed sailing times, because a late boat moves your whole day.

If your guests cross to the island, the Langkawi leg is a second shoot. See Langkawi for that side.

The fort museum

Muzium Kota Kuala Kedah is one of the museums run by the Malaysian Museums Department (Jabatan Muzium Malaysia). A museum ground is a good backdrop for a heritage or community event. It also has a manager, so ask the museum office about filming, tripods and extra equipment before you plan any shot there.

Sound at the waterfront

Wind, boat engines, announcements and crowds compete with a speech. Ask where the quietest corner is and whether there is a PA (sound system) we can record from. Our sound planning guide explains how we plan microphones.

Drones. Drone shots need approval first. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia says standard drone applications are made at least 14 working days before the activity.

Checklist for a Kuala Kedah event

  1. The exact venue, with a map pin, and who manages it.
  2. Their answer on filming and equipment.
  3. The quietest place for speeches, and whether a PA is available.
  4. Rain or strong wind plan, using the weather and venue-change planner.
  5. Parking, and whether the ferry is part of your day.

Questions people ask

Can you film a send-off or welcome at the Kuala Kedah jetty?
Ask the jetty operator first whether filming, tripods and extra people on the terminal are allowed on your day. Tell us the answer and the sailing times. We then plan positions that keep walkways and boarding clear.
Can we film at Muzium Kota Kuala Kedah?
The museum is run by the Malaysian Museums Department (Jabatan Muzium Malaysia). Ask the museum office whether your event, filming and equipment are allowed, and what approval or booking it needs. Send us the reply and we plan around it.
Our ceremony is in Alor Setar and the reception in Kuala Kedah. Does that change the plan?
Kuala Kedah is a separate waterfront area, about 10 km from Alor Setar city centre. It is one schedule with two locations. Tell us both addresses and the time between the ceremony and the reception, and we plan the move.
What if the ferry is delayed or cancelled on the day?
Ask the operator how a delay or a changed sailing is announced. Keep the ceremony time flexible for guests who cross the sea, and tell us the plan. We then agree which moments we film first.
