Filming family celebrations and personal milestones

Keep the memories of a family celebration without turning the day into a production.

In short

  • Family video works best when it follows the people, not a script.
  • Children, older relatives and the guest of honour may need different things from the day.
  • Decide who may see or share the video before the day.
  • Start with the occasion, the date and who will be there. A short message is enough.

A family celebration is easier to film well when you decide what matters before the day. We follow the people and moments your family cares about, and keep the filming light so everyone can enjoy the occasion.

Which celebration are you planning?

Occasion What the family usually wants to keep Start with
Birthday or milestone The person, their words and the wishes from guests Birthday and milestone celebration videography
Children’s party The children enjoying themselves, without being overwhelmed Children’s birthday party videography
Reunion People, relationships and voices that may not gather again Family reunion videography
Aqiqah The parts the family wants recorded, with permission where needed Filming an aqiqah family celebration
Baby’s full-moon or hundred-day The baby, the rituals and the family gathered Filming a baby’s full-moon or hundred-day celebration

What should the family decide first?

Who is there, and what do they need? Young children tire quickly. Older relatives may need a seat and a quieter moment. Our guide on children and older relatives at one event helps you plan the timetable around them.

Whose stories do you want to keep? An older relative’s voice can matter more than any decoration. A short, calm conversation works if the family makes space and does not pressure the person. See recording an older relative’s stories.

Who may see the video? Family films often include children and private moments. Decide before the day who receives it and whether anything is shared online. For a sensitive occasion, such as a private memorial, agree who has access first, and we will confirm whether and how we film.

How do I get started?

  1. Write down the occasion, the date and who will be there.
  2. List three or four moments you would not want to miss.
  3. Note anyone who prefers not to be filmed.
  4. Name one family member to speak for the group.

You do not need a perfect plan. Send these four points by WhatsApp and we will suggest coverage and tell you what we can do for your date.

Tell us what the celebration is, who will be there and what you most want to remember. That is enough for us to suggest coverage and to say what we can do for your date.

Questions people ask

Do we need a videographer for a small family gathering?
Not always. A phone recording may be enough for a short, informal event. A videographer helps when moments cannot be repeated, many relatives are involved or you want clear sound from speeches, prayers or a performance. Tell us what you want to keep and we will say honestly what fits.
How do you film children and older relatives without overwhelming them?
We can use a small crew, keep a comfortable distance and follow the natural flow of the day. If someone prefers not to be filmed, tell us and we respect it. Rest times for young children or older relatives can be built into the plan.
Who should decide what we film?
Choose one person in the family to brief us and make decisions, with a backup. Ask the guest of honour and key relatives about their wishes beforehand. A single point of contact avoids mixed instructions on the day.
Can the video be kept private?
Yes. Tell us who can receive the video and whether anything may be posted online. For sensitive events, agree access before the day. Not everything filmed has to be shared, and some moments can stay unfilmed.
