Interview filming

Interview filming at your event

Speakers and guests recorded clearly, with their consent, between programme items.

In short

  • Interviews fit around your run sheet, so people are filmed when they are free.
  • Everyone is told how their words will be used, and agrees before filming.
  • Clear sound matters more than a nice background, so we pick the spot for sound first.
  • Each person can speak in the language they are most comfortable in.

Interviews let people say in their own words what the event meant to them. They give your highlight film, social clips or report a human voice that general footage cannot.

We fit interviews around your programme, record them with clear sound, and ask permission before anyone sits in front of the camera.

What interviews are useful for

Interviews work best when you know where they will be used. Common uses are:

  • Leaders and speakers: a short statement about the event or a theme, for a corporate event or conference.
  • Guests and participants: reactions from attendees, for a launch, exhibition or community gathering.
  • Organisers and volunteers: the story behind the event, for reports to sponsors or members.
  • Sponsors and partners: a few words on why they supported it.

An interview is not a speech recording. If a speech should be kept complete, ask for full ceremony and speech recording as well.

Deciding who, when and how long

Keep the list short. Start with the people whose voices matter most, then add others if time allows. For each person, decide:

  1. Their role and message: what you hope they can speak about.
  2. When they are free: before the programme, during a break or after a session.
  3. How long to allow: shorter slots suit busy speakers; longer slots suit a story.
  4. Language: the one they speak most naturally.

Our interview schedule builder helps you lay this out against your run sheet. It is optional, and we can work through the same questions by message.

Where we film and why sound comes first

Sound matters more than the background. A plain wall in a quiet room beats a beautiful spot next to a loud air-conditioner or speaker stack.

We look for a space that is quiet, has steady light, and is close to your guests, so no one misses the programme. In a hall that echoes, we place the microphone close to the speaker. The event audio brief builder and our sound planning guide explain what to ask of the venue.

Permission and privacy

Every person should know they are being recorded, why, and where the video may be shown. Before filming each interview we:

  • Ask for permission and explain the intended uses in plain words.
  • Let the person decline or stop at any time.
  • Note any limits, such as internal use only, or no social media.

If you need signed consent for your organisation, tell us at the start so the form and the process are in place before the day. The filming and publication checklist lists what to settle, and our permissions guide covers the wider picture.

How do interviews run on the day?

One person films while another can line up who is next, so the schedule keeps moving. We keep sessions short and relaxed, because a nervous guest speaks better after a minute of ordinary conversation than after a long briefing.

If interviews and event coverage happen at the same time, we confirm during planning whether one operator can do both or you need a second. See multi-camera event recording for how simultaneous coverage is planned.

Questions people ask

Do you write the interview questions?
We can suggest questions, but the message is yours. Tell us the audience and who should be asked, and we help shape short, open questions that are easy to answer on camera. You approve the list before the day.
Where are the interviews filmed?
In a quiet corner near the programme, such as a side room, the edge of a foyer or a space behind the stage. We check the spot with the venue beforehand, because background noise is the most common reason interview audio is hard to use.
How many interviews can be done in one day?
It depends on how long each person is available, the gaps in your programme and the crew. We map this with you from the run sheet and tell you early if the schedule is too tight.
What if a guest does not want to be filmed?
They can say no. We ask each person before recording and explain where the video may appear. If you need written consent for a particular use, tell us early so it can be arranged with your organisation.
Can interviews be in more than one language?
Yes. Each person speaks in the language they are most comfortable in, and captions or translated subtitles can be added on request.
