Anand Karaj ceremony

Filming an Anand Karaj ceremony

Ask the gurdwara first, share their answers with us, and we plan the filming around them.

Send your date and area. We suggest coverage and confirm availability.

In short

  • Ask the gurdwara about filming before you contact a videographer.
  • Find out where the crew may stand, how they should dress and when they may move.
  • Ask how the hall's sound is arranged, because the hymns and prayers matter most.
  • Decide who in the family speaks to the gurdwara and passes on the answers.

Ask the gurdwara first. They decide what is allowed during the ceremony, and their answers shape everything we plan. Once you have them, send them to us.

What should you confirm with the gurdwara?

Gurdwaras and communities can have different arrangements, so ask for the rules of your own gurdwara. Ask the person who manages the gurdwara or the ceremony, and write their answers down.

Question Why it matters for filming
Is filming allowed during the ceremony? Decides what we can record
Where may the crew stand, and may they move? Sets camera positions
What should the crew wear, including head covering and footwear? We prepare before the day
Is there a rule about tripods, lights or flash? Changes how we set up
How is sound arranged in the hall? Decides how we record hymns and prayers
Are there areas or moments where filming is not allowed? Lets us stop at the right time
Who is our contact at the gurdwara on the day? Someone we can ask if plans change

The venue filming questions checklist can be a starting point for your own version.

Who in the family should speak to the gurdwara?

Choose one person, often a parent or an elder who already knows the gurdwara. One voice avoids mixed messages. They can also pass on the answers to us, in writing if possible.

If the gurdwara prefers to speak directly to the videographer, we are glad to speak with them. Tell us who to contact.

Why does sound matter so much?

For this ceremony, the hymns, prayers and spoken words are central. A film with clear sound is worth far more than one with only pictures.

Ask whether the gurdwara has its own sound system, who runs it and whether we may take a feed or place a recorder nearby. If the answer is no, we can record from where we are allowed to stand and tell you how clear it will be. The audio brief builder helps you write down your questions.

Which moments and people should the film hold?

Once you know the limits, decide what matters to your family. You might want the arrival, the people who give blessings, the couple during the main parts of the ceremony and the moments afterwards with family.

List them in order on the must-capture moments checklist and note any moment the family prefers not to film. If the gurdwara limits the main ceremony, you can still ask for arrivals, the setting and family moments around it.

What about the langar and other events?

A wedding day may include time before and after the ceremony, such as the arrival, the meal and photographs with family. Ask the gurdwara which areas may be filmed and when. Each part can be a separate block in the coverage plan, with its own timing and crew position.

If your wedding includes events on other days, such as parties or gatherings at home, see our Indian wedding videography service and the guide to planning video across mehndi, sangeet and wedding days.

What we confirm for your event

  • The gurdwara’s rules on filming, positions, dress and sound, which we plan inside.
  • Our team follows the gurdwara’s conduct rules, including head covering and footwear.
  • If a recorder cannot be placed, we record from where we may stand and tell you how clear the hymns will be.
  • If the rules change on the day, we follow the gurdwara’s instruction and adjust positions.
  • Any moment the family wants kept out of what is shared publicly, noted in the plan.

Our wedding videography service covers the wider day. Send us what the gurdwara tells you and we will plan from there.

Once you have the gurdwara's answers, send us the date, the time and what you were told. We will plan positions and sound inside those limits and tell you what we still need to confirm.

Questions people ask

Does the gurdwara decide whether we can film?
Yes, the gurdwara sets its own arrangements, and committees and communities may differ. Ask the person who manages the gurdwara or the ceremony, and write the answer down. We then plan inside those rules and tell you what the film can and cannot include.
What should the crew wear and how should they behave in the hall?
Ask the gurdwara what is expected of visitors and of anyone filming, including head covering and footwear. Tell us what they say and our crew will follow it. If you are unsure, ask the gurdwara to send the rules by message.
Can the hymns and prayers be recorded clearly?
Often yes, if we know how the sound is arranged. Ask whether the gurdwara has its own sound system and whether a recording can be taken from it. We then plan how to record without placing equipment where it should not be.
Does the film cover the langar and other events?
It can, if you want it. Ask the gurdwara whether filming is allowed in each area, because rules can differ between the hall and the dining area. Tell us the order of events and we can plan each part as its own coverage block.
